Let's be honest, traveling during the time of Covid has been rough. But with so many countries now reopening their boarders to foreign travelers, travel is back and better than ever!
For the last two years we've kept our adventures inside of the US, but recently we had the opportunity to explore the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and the surrounding Ontario area. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

Here's what you need to know:
Download the ArriveCAN app in advance.
You'll need this to be able to cross the boarder. Just download the app and follow the prompts to register a traveler. You can do this the day of your trip or up to three days prior. You'll have to provide proof of vax status and a valid passport/passport card as well as your intended entry point to the county and purpose.
Carry a physical copy of your passport and vax card.
You'll want to have your passport or passport card as well as your proof of vaccination status handy. You will be asked for both of these items before you'll be allowed access to the country.
You'll have to pay an entry toll.
If you're crossing via land like we did be prepared to pay a toll. We crossed at the Peace Bridge and paid $7.50 in Canadian dollars to enter. We paid in American money and had no issues. They also accepted E-Z pass.
Speed limits are in kilometers, not miles!
And gas is bought per liter instead of per gallon. These numbers can seem pretty jarring as an American who doesn't use the metric system. Most modern cars have an option that allows you to change the speedometer from mph to kph. We didn't bother, but it's worth being aware of.
Your credit cards will work!
We had no issues and most places took cards, especially in the more touristy areas. Most places also took American dollars as payment but provided any change in Canadian dollars. This wasn't exactly favorable exchange rate wise, but made for cool souvenirs.
But your cellphone won't!
Your American cellphone will stop working once you cross the boarder. We were able to get by by just connecting to the free WIFI at restaurants and attractions. But if it's imperative you stay connected at all times you'll want to invest in a Canadian SIM card or have an international phone plan.
Recommendations and Must Do's
Take the time to enjoy nature's beauty!
The Canadian side of Niagara has the best views of the falls. The pedestrian walkway has some amazing views and photo ops. Plus it's lovely for a stroll on a nice day. Take the time, enjoy the natural sights, and just bask in the presence of one of natures most magnificent displays.
Book a tour on the "Voyage to the Falls" boat.

Don't get me wrong, there are so many awesome tours and activities that you can chose from. But given the bang for your buck plus over all fun of the experience I found this one to be the best. This boat ride will get you up close and personal with the famous Horseshoe Falls. You'll get out of this world views from a unique vantage point of the both the American and Canadian falls. However a word of warning, YOU WILL GET WET! But let's be honest, that's half the fun.
Check out the views from the Skylon Tower.

This observation deck boasts some of the best panoramic views of the falls. You can even book a table at their revolving restaurant for a really unique experience. It's also an iconic and distinguished part of the Niagara skyline.
Explore Clifton Hill.
Yes, Clifton Hill is a huge tourist area, think of it as Niagara's Times Square. But it's popular for a reason. From restaurants to attractions there is plenty to do. And everyone in your party will be able to find something to enjoy. Because it is a tourist area, prices are a little higher than normal, but the proximity to the falls can't be beat.
I think it's safe to say that whatever you chose, you can't go wrong! Explore and enjoy!
